The Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez stands as one of Argentina's most storied and revered motorsport venues. Located in Buenos Aires, this iconic circuit has been a cornerstone of racing in South America for over 70 years, hosting everything from legendary international events to the country's most beloved domestic series.
Opened in 1952 during the presidency of Juan Perón, the track was initially named "Autódromo 17 de Octubre." Its creation was spearheaded by prominent Argentine drivers, including the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio. The circuit later adopted its current name to honor the brothers Oscar and Juan Gálvez, who were titans of Argentine motorsport, winning an impressive 13 out of 14 Turismo Carretera championships between 1947 and 1960.
Over the decades, the Autódromo has hosted a wide range of world-class events, including:
• 20 Formula 1 Argentine Grand Prix races
• 10 Argentine Motorcycle Grand Prix events
• The 1000 km Buenos Aires sports car race
Today, the track remains the heart of Argentine racing, hosting premier series like Turismo Carretera, TC2000, and Top Race.
The Autódromo is famous for its multiple layouts, but two in particular are used most frequently today:
• Circuit N° 8: A technical 3.380 km layout that challenges drivers with its fast sections and a tricky infield.

• Circuit N° 12: A longer, high-speed 5.651 km circuit, beloved by the powerful Turismo Carretera cars for its long straights.

To get a feel for the track, check out this video of a lap on Circuit N° 8 in a Formula 4 car. The on-board view captures the thrill of accelerating down the main straight and navigating the sweeping turns from a driver's perspective.
Located in the Villa Riachuelo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, the circuit is easily accessible. Situated on Avenida Coronel Roca 6902, the venue is serviced by major roads and public transport, including bus lines and the Belgrano Sur train line. The track's location, originally built on flat swampland, allows for excellent spectator views from the grandstands. See the map below to plan your visit.
The Autódromo is preparing for a major revitalization. The MotoGP Argentine Grand Prix will be returning to the circuit starting in 2027, a move that signifies a new chapter for the venue. This will involve a multi-million-dollar renovation to upgrade the track, pits, paddock, and safety systems to international standards. The return of MotoGP is expected to attract an estimated 150,000 spectators on-site and millions more worldwide, ensuring the Autódromo's legacy as a premier racing destination for years to come.
